I have been recently asked a very great question, that I imagined many patients might wonder about...,
Would I experience chronic back pain years after I have had an epidural?
The resounding answer is No. Risk factors for this may include, the skill of the anaesthetist, the number of attempts made to place the injection, the BMI of the patient and most importantly, any pre-existing issues with a patients back.
Overall, the American Society of Anaesthesiologists confirm that there is no risk for chronic back pain following the placement of an epidural or spinal injection.
